Coach purses got their start when their founder noticed how distinctive the leather used in baseball gloves was and how long it lasted in spite of rough handling.  The first Coach handbags were made in 1941; they were then as they are now, made to stand the test of time.

Designer Bonnie Cashin joined the family owned business and designed the first Coach purse inspired by the useful design of a paper shopping bag.  Many of the Coach purses designed by Cashin are still in use today and the designs she created are revamped for each season’s new styles.

Sales declined for the Coach Purse Company in 1998 with the changing of high end designer handbags to a more eclectic blend of materials such as fabric and mixed materials.  Consumers saw Coach purses and handbags as rather conservative and traditional and they were looking for a different style.  Coach recognized the need for change and responded dramatically with its introduction of the first signature line of Coach bags with the letter “C” print and a mixture of fabric and leather.  This revived the popularity of the Coach purse.

Coach supports the sales and maintenance of their items by the provision of a company policy that allows for any of their items to be returned to them and repaired for a nominal fee.  It is requested that a repair request is provided in writing to explain the damage.  The Coach purse is promptly repaired and returned to its owner for a small fee.

The first Coach purse collection which consisted of 12 Coach purses; today there are styles to suit every one.  Coach purses made today usually include an inside zip pocket, cellphone and multifunction pockets, and signature fabric linings with leather trim.  The turnlock closure, grommets, and the Coach purse leather hangtag are symbols of the quality craftsmanship that is put into each Coach purse.
