Mulberry Bags and Purses

When asked to describe the company, Mulberry designer Emma Hill replied: “I think we’re warm and fuzzy. Not standoffish. A bit of a national treasure.” She is completely right!

In 1971 Mulberry was formed by Roger Saul with £500 he had received as a 21st birthday present, starting out with modest roots in Somerset, England. Together with his mother, he began a company dedicated to making leather goods in his garage.

Saul sought to create a style that was quintessentially English, with his clothes inspired by the supposed contrasts of the city and the countryside. His approach and the excellent quality of his work soon brought him recognition and accompanied success. Setting up factories in local areas, Mulberry quickly grew to become a household name by the early 1990s. In 1991 it further expanded and added its “At Home” range which was tailored towards interior designs, the precursor of its Home Division. By 1992, the company was drawing in revenues of £50 million.

In the late 1990s Mulberry further expanded, opening stores in Tokyo alongside other duty free stores in Denmark and Germany. In 1997 it opened the Charlton House Hotel. The Charlton House Hotel, located in Somerset, is used to showcase the Mulberry Home Collection of interior items and introduce Mulberry to a wider audience. On its website, Mulberry is proud to be the only UK luxury brand to retain and invest in its UK factory – surely a sign of how seriously it takes its roots.

Mulberry drew fame for its simple classic look. Like Saul explained in a 1993 Times article:  “Mulberry whiffs of all sorts of things, a certain integrity, a certain reserve, definitely a humorous eccentricity. Quality unquestionably, and perhaps even a little bit aristocratic. People expect that from an English branded product, but you must not be afraid to laugh at yourself.” This is what Mulberry bags are all about.

Mulberry bags are made in different themes and sizes. They make retro bags which are appealing. Brands like their new Studded Hobo Bag offer a difference for those who want something more Marc Jacob-like. With its tassels and huge buckles, its look differs from the traditional Mulberry. Whatever your preference might be, Mulberry bags are the lords of style. The features on each individual bag are unique and creative. Mulberry bags are made with the highest quality and weather very well.

Their style and tradition make them a fitting addition to any wardrobe. Mulberry bags are the perfect addition for the modern woman. Very few bags say style the way Mulberry does. Even fewer say warm, fuzzy, and a bit of a national treasure with as regal a tone.
