Tommy Hilfiger Purses and Bags
Tommy Hilfiger purses were created by Thomas Jacob Hilfiger, an American fashion designer and the founder of the brand Tommy Hilfiger. Tommy Hilfiger was born and raised in Elmira, New York and was the second of nine children in a large Irish American family. His parents wanted Tommy to be an engineer but rather than furthering his education, he went to work in retail at the age of eighteen.
Tommy would go to New York City to buy jeans which he customized and then resold at a local downtown Elmira store. Hilfiger later opened his own store, The People’s Place in Elmira. The store was a hangout for teens and held frequent contests and live DJ appearances but unfortunately there were more people hanging out than shopping. After seven years, when Hilfiger was just twenty-five, The People’s Place went bankrupt.

Hilfiger moved to New York City and although he was offered positions with designers Calvin Klein and Perry Ellis, he turned them down with greater plans in mind. In 1984, he founded the Tommy Hilfiger Corporation and introduced his signature menswear collection. Hilfiger was named Menswear Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 1995. By the twentieth anniversary in 2004, the company had 5,400 employees and revenues in excess of 1.8 billion dollars. In 2006, Hilfiger sold his company for 1.6 billion dollars to a private investment company, Apax Partners.
Although the company changed hands, Tommy Hilfiger remains a popular brand. The accessories line including Tommy Hilfiger purses is updated regularly with new designs. A Tommy Hilfiger purse for spring and summer is the Regatta. This Tommy Hilfiger purse features an interior back wall zipper pocket, printed floral canvas and a colored web strap. The lining is 100% nylon with navy blue stripes and a red interior PVC Tommy Hilfiger purse logo. This purse also has a magnetic snap closure for convenience and security.
The hottest Tommy Hilfiger purse for this year is The Limited Edition Tote Bag which features photographs by the late Jeremy Blake. It is constructed of Natural canvas with fine leather trim. In Blake’s honor, all the proceeds from the sale of this tote will fund a new Free Arts NYC photography program for low-income children in New York City. Blake was a strong supporter of Free Arts NYC, a non-profit organization providing underprivileged children with a unique combination of educational arts and mentoring programs. Launching in 2009, the program will help inspire these children to create a different vision for their future.
